CHAINSAW MAINTENANCE & CROSS CUTTING

COURSE DESCRIPTION

City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross Cutting (Unit 0039-20 - CS30). This is a 2 day course covering the maintenance of chainsaws and the crosscutting of hardwood or softwood stems up to 15 inches in diameter. The course is designed for people who have no experience using chainsaws and who are required to maintain and operate chainsaws for cross-cutting only. Upon taking this course candidates will be prepared for the following: - Taking an assessment for NPTC Units CS 30.1 and CS 30.2. - Understand operator safety during chainsaw maintenance. - Be able to carry out routine and periodic maintenance to a chainsaw. - Be able to start and check a chainsaw, and understand operator safety during chainsaw use. - Be able to safely crosscut timber that is less than guide bar length in diameter. - Measuring the Cross-cut timber and presenting for habitat stacking, or to a specification. This course is a pre-requisite for City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Award in Felling and Processing Trees up to 380mm (Unit 0039-21 old CS31). Course Content: • To understand the regulations and safety requirements related to the use of chainsaws and good practices within the industry. • To understand how to and to be able to prepare and maintain the chainsaw and cutting system for use. • To be able to carry out operational chainsaw checks. • To crosscut timber to specified standards of accuracy using safe efficient techniques. • To present produce as specified for subsequent extraction or loading. • To remove branches from felled trees, using a chainsaw (sned), to specified standards of safety & quality to be able to work safely. Assessment: • City & Guilds NPTC assessment carried out by an independent assessor. Accreditation: • MediArb Training Certificate & City & Guilds NPTC Qualification Certificate. Expiry of Accreditation: • Recommended refresher every 3 - 5 years.
